The English Premier League kicked off its 2017-2018 season in style, with West Ham United and Manchester United giving fans a thrilling draw in their opening match in Sydney, Australia.
The match was the first of its kind to be contested outside of England, with West Ham and Man United playing in the Sydney Football Stadium in front of a sell-out crowd of over 70,000.
Both teams started cautiously, with West Ham looking to contain the more established side, whilst Man United had the upper hand in possession. The first half was an entertaining affair, with West Ham creating the better chances and going closest to opening the scoring, only to be denied by the woodwork.
The second half saw the game open up, with Man United beginning to take control. However, West Ham kept them at bay, with goalkeeper Adrian producing a number of fine saves to keep the score at 0-0.
The match finished with a 0-0 draw, as both teams settled for a point each. The result was a fair reflection of the game, with both teams having their chances to win the match, but ultimately being unable to find the breakthrough.
The match was a great advertisement for the Premier League, with the passionate Australian crowd providing a great atmosphere throughout the match. It was also a great experience for the players, with West Ham's Mark Noble revealing in an interview after the match that it was a "great honour" to represent the Premier League in Sydney.
The two sides will now return to England, with West Ham travelling to Newcastle, whilst Man United will host West Ham at Old Trafford next weekend.
